Heroes

heroes

Long before this was popular

Gentle Reader,

There are pretend heroes and there are "real" true to life heroes! Let me tell you about  a real one.  Back in the days before I got so sick. I was working the typical American day job and preaching on the weekends. I worked about 14,16,18 hours a day . Marti decided that she needed something to do to occupy her time. I suggested one "little" bird. Well before I knew it we have around 30-35 parrots of all sizes (now understand at the time I was afraid of anything that has wings bats, birds, bugs etc.). But when Marti got too sick to take care of them by herself I pitched in to help. Parrots are the 3rd most popular "companion animals in the United States and some  collect them like Parish Hilton collects traffic tickets. Marti rescued many from intolerable livings conditions trapped in Garages and filthy cages by those who are only interested in making money. The parrots were "family" to us. They would fly free in our house and sleep on the end of our bed. There are more than 16 million of these "FIDS" living in our homes. They are more intelligent that many 2-3 year old humans. Sammi goffin

But as we discovered I had lost a lung from  inhaling fumes at work and we had to give up many of our "babies" It was a long process and no human adoption agency could have been more careful in selecting the proper adopting human for these precious of God's creation. Marti and I spent many tearful nights having rescued some of these little ones.  One such was Sammy (i) later we found out Sammy was a little girl goffin cockatoo. We contacted Sybil Erden from the Oasis Sanctuary  in Phoenix AZ (who had a boy goffin who was lonely and a feather picker) After much discussion we agreed that Sammi should come to live with Sybil. The Oasis sanctuary is the largest, most highly regarded no-kill, life-care facility for parrots and other "exotic" birds in the united States. We took Sammi to the Airport to be meet by a member of the Oasis Foundation who then hand carried Sammi to her new home. At last word Sammi and her new boyfriend were screaming happy and the boyfriend had stop feather picking. They will never leave nor be sold but will live their 80 + years  as they should with other of their own kind. As it should be!  and so Gentle Reader, I submit for your enjoyment Sybil Erden Executive Director and true Parrot lover as one of the unsung true life heroes.

Thank you Sybil for your dedication to God's little creations.

Love, Denis and Marti

(Say hi to Sammy (i) for us  Sammi you are missed more that words can say)

Me and my wife watched this movie about this guy in California who took care of wild Parrots that were once someones pet or something, nobody really knows how they got there, but they live in California in the great outdoors. This guy talks to them and feeds them. He holds out his arm and they come to him. It took him a year to become their friend, it was so fascinating. He gave each one of them names. How we could know who was who. This man is a hero, can't remember his name, but I'm sure you know him.

I hope your job is compensating you for your lost lung.

Congratulations on your award.

Thank you!
Yes we know the gentlemen in question. A another example of a hero.
As to the compensation, Indiana has a right to work law which means the employer has all the rights. I was fired because I was in bed unable to breathe. I received no compensation of any kind. I suggest that if your looking for a place to live you stay away from the state of Indiana! I know that if I could find a place of service we'd leave this State yesterday.
Thanks and congrats on your award as well!
Love,
Denis and Marti
